This page is dedicated to IBM laptop chargers and we aim to answer many of the commonly asked questions about IBM chargers. The IBM laptop is extremely common, in fact IBM and Toshiba (and its rebrandeds and clones) were the original laptops! So why is there such an abundance of variation on their chargers? To make you buy it from IBM at IBM Prices!
IBM, bless them, call nearly all their Chargers "Universal" they do not mean that it is "Universal" in the context that we use the term Universal! (we us the term "Universal" to mean that the charger will fit many different laptops and has changeable connectors) They, IBM, mean that the charger will work in some other countries (i.e 100v output - as well as 240v output for UK).
So what about actual Universals - will they fit IBM's? Some might but they usually have an abundance of connectors except the very one that you are looking for! There are 7 common connector sizes for IBM's (3 are round hollow barrel - 1 is squarish 4 pin - 2 are round 4-pin - 1 is male 1 is female and the latest Lenovo 20v 3.25a has connector with male centre pin).
The Connector Sizes: Round hollow 6.5mm x 3mm - 5.5mm x 2.5mm - 5.5mm x 2.0mm AND squarish 4 pin found in many Think Pad Models.
Next to consider is the OUTPUT i.e. the voltage and amperage (capacity) - Most IBM's are either 16v (but not all) and the amperage varies between 1a and 7.5a (some very new ones may need more amps).
